About Maidstone Islamic Centre

A House of Worship, A Home for the Community

Our History

Maidstone Islamic Centre has been serving the Muslim community of Melbourne’s west for over four decades. Established between 1973 and 1983 in a former Salvation Army hall, the Centre began as a humble place of prayer funded by the dedication and generosity of local Muslims.

What started as a modest prayer space has grown into a vibrant and diverse Islamic centre that continues to nurture faith, knowledge, and unity. In the early years, local Muslim families came together with a shared vision — to create a permanent place of worship for the growing Muslim population in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Through community fundraising and volunteer efforts, the former Salvation Army hall was transformed into a masjid. It became a sanctuary for prayer, learning, and gathering — a foundation that still guides us today.

Over time, as the community expanded, so too did the Centre’s services, facilities, and programs.
